You don’t need to live in the Hamptons to enjoy the relaxed beauty of coastal-inspired living.
One of the wonderful things about home décor is that inspiration can come from anywhere in the world. I live on the beautiful Kāpiti Coast of New Zealand—not the Hamptons—yet I have always been drawn to the timeless elegance of soft blues, crisp whites, fresh florals and relaxed entertaining spaces that define this much-loved aesthetic.
From my home, surrounded by ocean views and blue, white and blush hydrangeas growing in my garden, I began creating my own interpretation of coastal style—one inspired by nature, creativity and the beauty found in everyday life.
Coastal style, reimagined on the Kāpiti Coast
For me, coastal style is less about following decorating rules and more about creating a feeling.
It is the quiet freshness of blue and white. It is natural light falling across a beautifully set table, flowers gathered from the garden and a favourite corner that feels calm and welcoming.
My version of this style has its roots here in Waikanae. The changing coastal light, garden colours and relaxed rhythm of life on the Kāpiti Coast all find their way into my artwork.
Hydrangeas are particularly inspiring because every flower head contains such a beautiful variation of colour—from soft powder blue and delicate lilac to ivory, sage and gentle blush.
From an Original Sketch to a Coastal Collection
This original blue hydrangea began as a quiet coloured-pencil sketch inspired by the blooms in my Waikanae garden. I was drawn to the subtle variations within the flower—the powdery blues, touches of green and deeper violet details that give each cluster its character. That first drawing eventually became the foundation for a coordinated collection of paper napkins, gift wrap, greeting cards and table runners, allowing one handmade artwork to travel from my sketchbook into homes and celebrations around the world.

From original painting to hydrangea home décor
Each design begins with original artwork created by hand.
After completing a painting, I carefully prepare and arrange the artwork for different products while preserving its painterly character. Through The Papercraft Studio, these designs become coordinated stationery, textiles, decorative accessories and gifts that can be printed to order and enjoyed around the world.
The Coastal Hydrangea collection includes pieces such as:
- Table runners and coordinating cloth napkins
- Wrapping paper, gift bags, tissue paper and ribbon
- Decorative cushions and coastal home accents
- Hydrangea cabinet knobs and furniture pulls
- Tea towels, placemats and entertaining accessories
- Greeting cards and thoughtful floral gifts
This allows one original artwork to travel from my studio in New Zealand into many different homes and celebrations.

Simple ways to introduce coastal hydrangeas into your home
You do not need to re-decorate an entire room. Often, a few thoughtful details are enough to change its atmosphere.
Create a relaxed coastal table
Begin with an ivory or white tablecloth and add a blue hydrangea table runner. Coordinating napkins, simple white plates and a small arrangement of garden flowers will create a welcoming table without feeling overly formal.
Natural textures such as linen, woven placemats, timber and glass work particularly well with hydrangea blues.

A Simple Hydrangea Furniture Refresh
Decorative hydrangea cabinet knobs are a simple way to update a bedside table, dresser, bathroom cabinet or kitchen drawer.
This small change can introduce colour and personality without replacing the furniture itself—particularly in coastal, cottage, Hamptons-inspired and grand-millennial interiors.

Add softness with cushions and textiles
A floral cushion can bring a quiet corner to life. Pair blue hydrangeas with ivory, soft sage, pale blue or natural linen for a calm, collected appearance.
Rather than matching everything perfectly, combine a few related colours and textures. A home often feels more personal when it has evolved naturally over time.
Carry the look into gifts and celebrations
Coordinated hydrangea wrapping paper, gift bags, tags and ribbon can make even a simple present feel considered and special.

The same artwork can also be used across bridal showers, garden parties, Mother’s Day gatherings, birthdays and coastal celebrations, creating a beautifully connected theme.
Made for meaningful everyday living
I believe our homes do not have to be grand to be beautiful. They should tell our stories, welcome the people we love and contain details that make everyday moments feel special.
A floral table setting, a refreshed drawer with hydrangea cabinet pulls or a soft blue cushion in a favourite chair can completely change the feeling of a space.
Wherever you live, you can create a home that reflects the beauty and atmosphere you love most.
My Coastal Hydrangea collection is my New Zealand interpretation of relaxed coastal elegance—created from original artwork, inspired by my garden and designed to bring colour, calm and a little everyday beauty into homes around the world.
